Baby Shower

Today was the actual/virtual baby shower, thank you so much for everyone who attended whether it be in person or signed onto the web cam and or called in on the conference call. We had a wonderful time. Lisa was so gracious to hold it at her house and Matt and Chris worked hard to make sure all of the tech support for the web cam and conference call worked and went smoothly.
The whole gang playing shower games.
Opening presents and telling everyone on the conference call at the same time what I was opening

Nikki was very helpful with handing me presents and opening them.

A quilt from my mom

My travel system (car seat and stroller) from San And Grandma Gwen. Raymond was very helpful and quick to get me anything I needed. (in the photo he is opening the box with his scissors)

Fun Surprise

Today we got a call from Babies R Us to come and pick up a gift that was waiting. When we arrived we found this fun gift waiting for us. The only problem was that it didn't say who it was from so we don't know who to thank.

Hypnobirthing

We had our very first Hypnobirthing class last night. I have been trying to find a class near us for months now. I was delighted to find one just 20 minutes away. We were afraid we would have to go to the next city to take the class. I just hope I make it through all of the five classes. I will be 39 weeks for the last class!

What is Hypnobirthing?

(From their website http://www.hypnobirthing.com/) Hypnobirthing is a unique method of relaxed, natural childbirth education, enhanced by self-hypnosis techniques. HypnoBirthing® provides the missing link that allows women to use their natural instincts to bring about a safer, easier, more comfortable birthing. Emphasis is placed on pregnancy and childbirth, as well as on pre-birth parenting and the consciousness of the pre-born baby. As a birthing method, HypnoBirthing® is as new as tomorrow and as old as ancient times.

Our first class was wonderful! The instructor spent time explaining to us how our bodies work during birth and we began learning how to breathe to help ourselves relax. By the time class ended we were all quite relaxed.

I can't wait for the next class.

The Pool is Here

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I am planning to have a water birth. Well the pool we ordered finally arrived today. Above is a photo of it from the website we ordered it from. It seems a little crazy but this is exactly what my midwives recommended to use. We blew it up and I got in to see how it feels. It fits me perfectly. There is plenty of room for me to stretch out and the sides are strong enough for me to sit or lean on if I need to.

Matt is a little skeptical as to how it's all going to work, but I'm excited.

Our neighbors will think we're weird for sure now!

My Birthday

The quality of this picture isn't great but you can see how big I am getting. I am now at 24 weeks and 24 centimeters. As you can see I can still wear my regular jeans, but I'm sure that won't last much longer.

It was my birthday today. We spent the evening with our good friends the Gordon's. We had cake and ice cream and opened presents. It was lots of fun. When I arrived home there was another gift waiting for me! My wonderful husband, Matt, his father, his mother and his grandmother surprised me with this rocking chair.

I fell in love with it when we were at IKEA a few weeks ago and he drove all the way back up there (about 1 1/2 hours away) to get it for me. I can't wait to use it with the baby.

Also, if you look at the bottom right hand corner of the photo - you can see my other gift - a 2lb box of See's Candy. YUM!

A Home Birth

Matt and I have decided, after much research, that we want to do a home birth. I've never been a big fan of hospitals, doctors or needles so I feel very confident in choosing to have our baby in the comfort of our own home. We have two wonderful midwives - Joi Brock and Stacy Lewis from the Texas Midwives Group who will be attending the birth. We've also decided to do a water birth while we're at it.

My very good friend Lisa had her baby boy, Louis, at home last September and I was able to be there to see the whole wonderful birth. Everything was relaxed and calm. It was an amazing experience.

It's a Girl!

Well we had our ultrasound at the imaging center and found out we're having a girl! I'm very excited because I had a feeling she would be a girl from the beginning. I should say, though, that I would have been equally thrilled to find out we were having a boy.

This picture is pretty hard to make out, but you're looking from the bottom up. Her legs are bent at the knees and hugging her chest. So you can see her thighs and feet on the left hand side.
Matt's dad, Richard, was in town so he was able to be there for the ultrasound with us, as well as my good friend Lisa. It was really special to share the experience with them.

I am now at 21 weeks. To give you an idea of the baby's size, she is only about 7 inches from head to rump and weighs around 10 ounces.

This is pretty much the only other picture that is somewhat recognizable. You can actually see her foot and her toes. It was very reassuring for Matt- as he could count the toes to make sure they were all there.

Our 16 week Ultrasound

Here is the latest picture of our baby. I'm at 16 weeks and one day for this one. As soon as I laid down and the midwife began to do the ultrasound the baby turned their back to us. This was the best picture we could get. Still it's amazing to see all the movement and hear the heartbeat.

I was really hoping to find out if we are having a boy or a girl, but no luck yet. We are scheduling another ultrasound at an imaging center to give us a better look.

Our First Look

These are our very first looks at the baby. I'm only 12 weeks along, but you can certainly see that it's definately a little person in there. I am so very excited! Matt is excited but nervous, as I think most husbands are, especially in the beginning.
According to my books the baby is only 2.5 to 3 inches long and weighs about .5 ounces. Amazing-isn't it?
